SmartAdjust
SmartAdjust is a powerful component in GeoLab that optionally automates the statistical analysis of your adjustment iterations by analyzing the network's residuals and standardized residuals, commenting measurements out as indicated, and repeating the process until the adjustment is completed. If problems are encountered, messages are generated to help.
If you have the GeoLabAPI licensed, SmartAdjust will be used automatically for fully automated adjustments on-the-go!
About SmartAdjust
This feature allows you to automate GeoLab's handling of identified outliers in an adjustment. SmartAdjust can be turned on and off using the "SmartAdjust" checkbox on GeoLab's Assistant tab, so you can use it for efficiently producing your own adjustments.
Important: SmartAdjust must be considered to be a helper tool - one that you must use with awareness and caution. Your professional knowledge of your specific survey must always be taken into account when statistically analyzing your adjustment's residuals and standardized residuals.
SmartAdjust will save you time and money because GeoLab2020 can now do your statistical analyses for you, using the GeoLabAPI and SmartAdjust.
Configuring SmartAdjust
SmartAdjust has many versatile settings available in GeoLab’s Preferences dialog (Tools/Preferences/General).
First, ensure that SmartAdjust will be able to find observations with flagged standardized residuals by checking that your “Standardized residual minimum absolute value” is set to a value that will flag residuals. A safe value to leave this setting at is 3.0.
Maximum number of observations to remove each cycle: SmartAdjust will run your adjustment repeatedly and remove (at most) this many observations with flagged standardized residuals, starting with the observation with the largest standardized residual.
Maximum number of adjustment cycles: SmartAdjust will run your adjustment at most this many times, removing the above number of observations with flagged standardized residuals each time.
Stop when variance factor is Group: SmartAdjust will run your adjustment repeatedly, until at most the above number of times, or until all observations with flagged standardized residuals are removed. A third factor which will trigger SmartAdjust’s completion is when your adjusted network’s variance factor reaches a target value. These include:
Above value: stop when the network variance factor is above the target value
Below value: stop when the network variance factor is below the target value
Within Threshold: stop when the network variance factor reaches the given target value, within a given threshold (+/-)
